Old Floyd Courthouse, Floyd, LA 1852
The old Floyd Courthouse was a place Cole Younger was locked up briefly according to Gus Thompson of that same area. In a book written by Cole Younger, himself, the famous outlaw, Confederate soldier talks about an incident in Louisiana that just happened to be in old Floyd. The “Bass Plantation” that younger rented (P. 57 of the Younger book) with two other Confederate officers is near old Floyd.

During the Civil War, Grant was camped at Lake Providence, Louisiana (about 20 miles from the old Floyd area) while digging his famous “canal” in an attempt to go around the big guns situated on the Mississippi River atop the bluffs at Vicksburg.
